Karijini National Park
Day 6
On the road to Karijini
On day 6, we
got up really early. I got up a bit before to do some yoga and then we started
driving towards Karijini. It was a 7 hour drive journey but absolutely worthy.
We
arrived at the campsite where we would stay for the next three days, after 7
hours of seeing nothing else but desert and small bushes. We went straight away for
a walk to have a swim at Joffre Gorge.
Joffre Gorge
We walked down the red cliffs that surrounded our campsite and we arrived at Joffre Gorge. That place was stunning. Walls were really high, gorgeous colours, and finally some water to cool down the 43 degrees. It was so nice. We laughed so much with Ben slippering and trying to do races with Brian and we had an awesome afternoon. We soon forgot about the whole driving day with the gift that Joffre Gorge gave us.
At night, we had a
nice dinner under the stars and a full moon eclipse that became red. Bonni
Tyler to enjoy the eclipse, some good tunes afterwards and a swag demonstration
to make sure that anyone found a snake or a spider inside their swag before
going to sleep. Amazing night falling asleep watching the stars with good company.
Day 7
It was dark and I could see the moon on my right hand side. After a couple of minutes, I started seeing some light and no longer after that, both the sun and the moon were sharing the sky. I left my swag and went to a place that was perfect for my morning yoga session. It was just a small wooden structure, covered with net and it was facing east, perfect for sunrise. I did yoga for about an hour and a half and then I went back to the campsite to have some breakfast with the others. I think that it was the best yoga session of my life. You can't really ask for anything else: the moon on one side, the sun rising on the other side and a wooden structure in the middle of the bush, that was perfect for my practice.
Circular Pool - Walhibindamunha
After breakfast we drove to Circular Pool. We started walking on a
smooth path, surrounded by huge red walls and nature. On the way we found goannas
and we passed Dales Gorge to go to the next one.
Fern Pool - Jubura
Fern Pool was our first stop and it was the best present we could have
had after a good walk under the heat of Australia. The waterfall was really
pretty and we all swam there to go behind it. It is such an amazing feeling to
have water everywhere; fresh transparent water surrounding us in an amazing
place that makes you feel so good, so peaceful.
Dales Gorge
After Fern
Pool, we stopped at Dales Gorge on our way back. We stayed there for a while,
admiring the beauty of the waterfall, the walls and all the nature around that
place. We took some pics and played underwater for a long time. Any of us
wanted to go out of the water, basically because the rocks were so hot and you
couldn't even walk on them and because we knew that we had the way back to the
track under the heat again haha. We had some lunch and we went to the visitor
centre.
After that,
we had free time and some of us went to Joffre Gorge again. Joffre Gorge ended
up being our favourite spot. We could walk there easily and the spot it is so
peaceful and quiet. There was no one but us which made it even better.
After
preparing and having dinner, Jacob and Soren proposed a game for the whole
group. They mindfully prepared a game in which we had to guess the song title,
the artist, the year, all together with additional questions, bonus points and
lots of laughs. It was one of the best nights we had during the trip and all
thanks to these beautiful boys and to the awesome group we were.
Day 8
Angela and I got up early in the morning before sunrise to do some yoga
in another wooden structure we found in the middle of the bush. Mosquitoes
didn't eat us at night but tried to kill us as soon as we got up haha. Some
mosquito repellent helped and we were doing yoga again in an awesome place.
Hamersley Gorge
That was the
third day in Karijini National Park and this time we went to Hamersley Gorge.
It was a good walk down and the gorge was wonderful. Clear water, amazing rocks
and formations and no one there a part from us. At the bottom of a small pool
called Spa Pool, we found a mango beer which is really typical of a town in
WA. We spent pretty much all morning there and then we headed back to have some
lunch and get ready for the next excursion.
Hancock Gorge – Kermits Pool and Spider Walk
In the
afternoon we went to Hancock Gorge. We started walking along the river. In
fact, we were walking inside the river and we arrived to a huge wall called
amphitheatre followed by a narrower area called Spider walk. That corridor
leaded us to Kermits Pool in which we weren't supposed to jump but we finally
did it haha. It was a really good afternoon and we had so much fun.
At night, we
played another game prepared by Soren and Jacob. So many anecdotes from that
night and lots of laughs. I really miss Karijini and those guys. It was amazing
to share time with them.
After the
game, I guess we didn't have enough in terms of laughs and we decided
to something else: the game of the swags, drop chairs and drop Bens.
The night
before, Ben experienced the feeling of some drop chairs accidentally falling on
his swag. Not only did the chairs fall without anyone's intervention, but they
also fell aligned one next to each other. It's incredible how good was the wind
blowing in the right direction to make this possible. Not to mention Jacob's
surprise when he saw that this happened so perfectly. So firstly, Ben's swag
got attacked by drop chairs. But this couldn't be the only attack to Ben's swag...
It was our last night in Karijini and Ben's swag decided
that was too lonely to wait for him to finish washing his teeth. Petra, Jacob
and I, decided to do something about it and we hided inside Ben's swag waiting for him to come back.
Ben didn't
notice that this was happening and he thought that just one person was in
there. He opened the swag and before Jacob tried to scare him, Ben was already
screaming. After that, he opened the swag again and before I could say anything
he was screaming again because he didn't expect anyone else in there haha. The
best part was when he finally thought that nothing else could happen and Petra
appeared from inside the swag again making Ben scream for the third time. We
laughed for a long time. Ben is just amazing...
After that,
we wanted to go to bed and Ben decided to set up his swag right next to Petra
and I. He promised not to snore and he didn't want to fall asleep before us,
just in case some drop chairs decided to fall accidentally on his swag again.
That didn't happen and after 30 seconds he was snoring so badly haha. I woke
him up and we asked him to either stop snoring or move somewhere else. He begged
for a second chance and we gave it to him. No snores and the night was awesome.
The next
quote, I got it from the visitor centre. It's an Aboriginal expression and it
goes as follows:
Wirlankarra yamama.
Yurlu nujnku mirda yurndarirda
Go with clean, open and accepting spirit, and
the country will not treat you badly
