Gili Islands are known for being a party place and a nice spot for diving
so I went there for the diving part. It was Caroline’s birthday and Brennan
bought her tickets to come to Indonesia so we were all going to see each other
again. I couldn’t be any happier; Caroline was coming!
Gili Air
First, I went to Gili Air which is the smallest of the three islands. It
is also the quieter and I spent there just a couple of day. The way from Kuta
Lombok to the harbour to get to Gili was just crazy. The tried to rip me off
thousand times, they wanted me to get in a carrousel with horses, they wanted
me to pay for bloody everything, even breathing haha but in the end, I dodged
all those people and I got to the harbour where so many locals were waiting. It
wasn’t the boat for tourists so I just got in the local boat and I was
surrounded by vegetables.
That afternoon it rained heaps and the dorm I booked to sleep just
flooded. I had to move my wet backpacks to another room and wait for the storm
to stop because it was actually crazy.
The next morning I also went for a run, did some yoga and caught a boat
to Gili Trawangan where I would meet Caroline the day after.
Gili Trawangan
Gili Trawangan is the biggest of the three islands and it is really
popular. The first night I stayed in an accommodation not too close to the
clubs and the party area so it was really quiet and I accidentally found a
lovely place in which they were doing yoga classes. Here I had my first yoga
class because I really wanted to know what it was since I had been doing yoga
on my own and never had taken a proper yoga class.
I went to explore the island and found really nice spots and the next day
Caroline was there and we started doing our diving course. We spent three days
diving and studying a bit and it was an unforgettable experience. We both
wanted to dive but any of us had tried it before. We loved it from the very
first moment we breathed under the water.
We saw turtles, we saw sharks. I got deeper than I was supposed to
because I lost my mind following turtles and fishes and I had one of the best
times of my life. Diving was just a magic experience and I haven’t been able to
take it out of my mind anymore.
The time I spent in Gili was awesome and the company was even better; so
many adventures and anecdotes: unicorns everywhere, mushrooms to go
snorkelling, chemists that offer you drugs when you ask for a digestive
medicine or a painkiller, falls face-first from the top of Brennan, sunsets,
diving and yoga.
